Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Drug Product Development Departments move to new laboratories located next to the manufacturing facility. This new location offers larger lab space and better communication between R&D units. The removal has just begun and will be completed by the end of the year.
The UE Innovative Economy Grant (POIG 4.4) for the construction of a new manufacturing facility has been awarded to Celon Pharma. A new production line will allow us to expand our manufacturing capabilities.
Celon Pharma obtained UE grants for ten different research projects of total support beyond 50 million zlotys! These will reinforce studies in company's main research areas: siRNA, oncology, metabolic diseases and neurology.
The first purchase financed from UE Innovative Economy Grant (POIG 4.2) has been made: Celon Pharma's Medicinal Chemistry Unit is now equipped with a new device - the NMR spectrometer.
The UE funds will be spend on modification and extension of company's R&D department by creation of two new research facilities: The Laboratory of Oligonucleotides Synthesis and The Laboratory of Pre-clinical Studies on Innovative Drugs. Our new laboratories will smooth the progress of drug development in pre-clinical phase, enabling us to provide patients with efficient therapeutics earlier.
It is fair to state that Bio–Forum 2009 – the unique meeting of Central European Bio–Tech society has been a great success! More than 1200 experts from bio–industry and academia gathered together in Lodz to share views and ideas. Celon Pharma, which is proud to be the sponsor of this event, hosted many of participants at its booth, offering not only the first–hand information on company’s research areas but also a cup of excellent coffee.
Celon Pharma is a sponsor of BioForum 2009. We feel strong need of promoting exchange of skills and know-how between business and academia. BioForum is an unique event that enable this exchange to become real. We will be happy to meet you there and talk about any collaboration regarding: new drug targets, know-how in RNA chemistry, experience in oligonucleotides stability and delivery, animal models for oncology research and of metabolic and CNS diseases.
Celon Pharma started prelimiary in vivo experiments using small molecule drug candidates for treatment of diabetes and metabolic disorders.
Celon Pharma acquired new space for its R&D Biology and Medicinal Chemistry Laboratories.
The design and arrangements of new work space have been already launched to prepare it for the full functionality on the brake of summer and fall.
Celon Pharma receives the silver medal in competition for a company of the highest quality in 2009 organized by Business Forum. This award confirmed that our products, research and development projects are the state-of-the-art in Poland.
Celon Pharma and International Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology will collaborate I the project of in vitro and in vivo screens of new innovative drug candidates used in a treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
Cooperation between Celon Pharma and Adam Mickiewicz University regarding in vitro screening of new compounds – the putative innovative anticancer drugs.
As a result of positive Integrated Management System audit which took place on 13th March 2009 Laboratory of Research and Development of Biotechnological Drugs has maintain the following certificates: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001/OHSAS 2007.
Celon Pharma and Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) sign agreement for financial support of research project of innovative anticancer drug, which inhibits transcriptional activity in cancer cells.
We established the collaboration with Military Institute of Health in Warsaw to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of Wnt signaling pathway as a drug target in oncology.
Join and meet us at 20th Symposium on ”Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics” in Geneva, Switzerland. This symposium, hosted by EORTC, NCI and AACR, will bring together academics and scientists and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry to discuss innovation in drug development, target selection and the impact of new discoveries in molecular and cell biology.
Celon Pharma and National Centre for Research and Development signs agreement for financing research of innovative drugs based on RNAi technology. This project is focused on finding active and specific siRNA which inhibits human Wnt-1 gen expression in cancer cells.
We started the collaboration with Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center and Institute of Oncology in Warsaw in the field of Wnt/ß-catenin pathway proteomics. We joined our forces to verify the expression of chosen signaling proteins in different types of breast cancer.
As a result of positive Integrated Management System audit which took place on 15th and 16th. April 2008 Laboratory of Research and Development of Biotechnological Drugs has received the following certificates: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001/OHSAS 2007.
Celon Pharma in collaboration with Experimental Medicine Centre in BiaĆystok received the first results of in-vivo tests of siRNA as an anticancer therapeutic. The treatment of nude mice through systemic application (subcutaneous or intraperitoneal) of PEI-complexed siRNA resulted in the delivery of intact siRNA into subcutaneous tumor xenografts and significant inhibition of tumor growth.
"Silencing of Wnt-1 by siRNA induces apoptosis of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells" (volume 7, issue 2 February 2008) is the first original publication of a preclinical studies in silencing of the Wnt-1 gene. Our results significantly indicate that anti-Wnt-1 siRNA inhibits Wnt-1 signaling, inducing apoptosis in human breast cancer cells and thus may serve as a potential anticancer drug.

Celon Pharma Ltd presented results of preclinical studies using siRNA in EGFR pathway inhibition. Data were shown during Cancer Therapeutics: The Road Ahead Conference on Capri from October 8th to 10th in 2007.
Epidermal growth factor receptor family members (ErbBs) are currently major targets of anticancer strategies and identifying the contribution of ErbBs to tumorigenesis is crucial for development of anti-ErbB therapies. Overexpression of EGFR may serve as a prognostic marker with respect to survival in advance breast cancer and recurrence in operable breast tumors. The downregulation of ErbBs members by RNA interference, especially in breast cancer offers a new mode for high effective and selective inhibition of specific gene expression.
Celon Pharma is planning to start first in vivo experiments using siRNA as an anticancer drug this year.
Planned in this project experiments are continuation of earlier in vitro screening tests, which purposing the preliminary estimation of the siRNA application in inhibition of tumor specific genes expression. The most interesting results were obtained for genes involved in uncontrolled proliferation, where we observed 70-90% inhibition of expression in comparison to negative control (scrambled siRNA). Also, we observed that silencing of target gene induced apoptosis at the level of 60-75%, and these results are similar to docetaxel which is commonly used in cancer therapy.
Celon Pharma Ltd will present results of preclinical studies with new innovative drug based on RNA interference technology. Data will be shown during 14th European Cancer Conference in Barcelona from September 23rd to 27th in 2007.
Utilization of phenomenon of interference is innovative manner of interaction on molecular targets RNA, that makes it possible selective effecting to oncogenes and incrementation of tumor. This project is focused on specific approach for tumor therapy, we brake process at the level of transcription of gene involved in tumorgenesis. Such is directed consistent with world trends of searches approach and development of tumor medicine. Celon Pharma is doing currently a research above the prototype of the anticancer drug based on the siRNA technology.
